The fundamental document of the American system of government, constituting the supreme law of the land, as adopted by the people of the United States through their representatives in the Convention of 1787 and ratified by conventions in the states, and as amended in compliance with provisions regarding amendments contained in the document. 16 Am J2d Const L §§ 11, 18 et seq.
