supplementary proceeding
A proceeding for the enforcement of a judgment where the ordinary means of enforcement by execution is unavailable or unavailing, sometimes regarded as a proceeding in the original action, at other times as a civil action or proceeding in itself, whereunder the plaintiff is enabled to examine the judgment debtor and third persons for the purpose of obtaining information concerning property owned by the debtor which may be applied in payment of the judgment. 30 Am J2d Exec §§ 774 et seq.
