The lien of an attorney at law of common law origin but existing under statute in some jurisdictions, attaching to all papers, books, documents, securities, moneys, and property of the client coming into the possession of the attorney in the course of and with reference to his professional employment, thereby permitting him to hold them as security for the general balance due him from the client for professional services and disbursements. 7 Am J2d Attys §§ 273, 276.
