One who, exercising independence in respect of his choice of work to be performed by him, contracts to do or perform certain work for another person according to his own means and methods, without being subject to the control of such other person except as to the product or result of the work. Co. v Spring Brook, 135 Conn 294, 64 A2d 39, 13 ALR2d 769; Hammond v El Dorado Springs, 362 Mo 530, 242 SW2d 479, 31 ALR2d 1367; Gomillion v Forsythe, 218 SC 211, 62 SE2d 297, 53 ALR2d 169; Hanks v Landert, 37 Wash 2d 293, 223 P2d 443, 30 ALR2d 1012. Not a "laborer" for the purposes of a statutory exemption. 31 Am J2d Exemp § 20. The principal test in determining whether one rendering services for another is an independent contractor is whether the employer has the right to control the details of the work, although the place of the work, the time of the employment, the method of payment, and the right of summary discharge, are also to be considered.
