general appearance
An appearance whereby the person appearing submits himself to the jurisdiction of the court, regardless of whether process has been served upon him, and renders himself before the court for all further proceedings in the cause or incidental to the original suit. 5 Am J2d Appear § 1. An appearance by invoking the judgment of the court in any manner on any question other than that of the jurisdiction of the court over his person, thereby waiving any defects in the jurisdiction of the court for want of valid summons or a proper service thereof. Re Blalock, 233 NC 493, 64 SE2d 848, 25 ALR2d 818.
