execution sale
A sale, usually at public auction, by a sheriff or other ministerial officer of property seized by him in levying an execution, pursuant to and under the authority of the writ or process of execution, for the purpose of obtaining from the proceeds of the sale an amount sufficient to satisfy the execution and the judgment whereunder it was issued. Sometimes the term "judicial sale" is used in the reported cases to include a sale under execution, and sometimes, judicial sales are referred to as "special execution sales." 30 Am J2d Exec § 304.
